Somali, US forces launch airstrike in Middle Shabelle, kill 12 Al-Shabaab militants

This latest operation is part of intensified military efforts by the Federal Government of Somalia, working closely with international allies, particularly the United States, to dismantle Al-Shabaab networks and prevent destabilisation in liberated areas.
A joint airstrike operation conducted by the Somali National Armed Forces and the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) in Aadan Yabaal district, Middle Shabelle region, has resulted in the elimination of 12 Al-Shabaab militants, according to a statement released by the Somali Federal Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism.
The strike, carried out overnight, targeted a known hideout and gathering site of the Khawaarij terrorist group, Al-Shabaab.

The well-coordinated mission was aimed at neutralising senior Al-Shabaab operatives and disrupting the group’s activities in the region.
“Preliminary reports indicate that 12 Khawaarij operatives, including senior leaders, were eliminated. Importantly, there were no civilian casualties,” the press release confirmed.

Authorities have stated that both Somali forces and AFRICOM are continuing to assess the aftermath of the airstrike.
